This is the homepage of Betsy-McCall.com.  For some visitors it is important to clarify that if you are looking for information on the doll Betsy McCall, then you need to go to betsymccall.com, no hyphen, or go back to your online search.  I was named after the doll, but I am a real person and not in any way officially associated with the doll or the former McCall Magazine empire.  Sorry.

The Links column on your right is for navigating the site. The purpose of this site can be stated simply, though simplicity will have no bearing on the actual contents of the site... this site is about me.  It's a place to put things.  A place to put links to my other sites and blogs.

If you are having a hard time locating something, check out the site index.  Some choice links are listed below.  These may be to pages on this site or elsewhere.  If you are looking for betsymccall.info, click here, or on the 'Courses' link to your right.

Lots of things are changing around here.  Not just the website, but in my life.  In the next year (December'06-January'07), I'm going to be looking for a new job, moving to a new city very probably, and eventually starting my education over again where it started... in astronomy.  I can't explain the reasons for this quickly or easily, but it's something I have to do.  My teaching portfolio for job hunting is found at right. (Note to potential employers.)

Message to my students:
If you are looking for course information or teaching porfolio information, please click on these links.  I was a student before I was a teacher, and sometimes we really don't want to know about our teacher's personal lives as much as we think we do.  I made the mistake of checking out a prof's 'personal' portion of his school website once--at a classmate's urging--only to find pictures of him in a Speedo.  Really not the image of him I wanted while I was trying to think about math.  So I issue this caution to hold back on investigating what I have on this site for public consumption until after class is over.  It's not going anywhere, but you may find out information on this site you really didn't want to know... although you won't find me in a Speedo.

Note to potential employers:
If you are a potential employer reading these pages, I strongly suggest the following: if you find something here that troubles you, please just discuss it with me.  Discrimination based on the content of a person's life outside of work is unwarranted (short of criminal behaviour).  If you are concerned that the information here is public, I remind you that so is having a conversation with one's significant other in a restaurant.  The content of the material here has been well considered, and while I would be happy to discuss your concerns, if you refuse to consider me for a position because of what appears here, it will be your loss more than mine.
